「MAGO NAGASAKA for FURLA」

Furla is launching a Japan-exclusive collection in collaboration with renowned contemporary artist Mago Nagasaka, known for his powerful works created from discarded electronic waste and his ongoing support for underprivileged communities in Ghana.

The collection will debut at a limited-time pop-up store on the first floor of Hankyu Umeda Main Store starting April 23, followed by a nationwide release in Furla stores and the official online store from April 30.

Three of Nagasaka’s most impactful and striking artworks have been selected to feature in the collaborative collection, with canvas-and-leather tote bags in two sizes, cotton shoppers, and — marking a first for the brand — printed T-shirts. The collaboration blends Furla’s playful and joyful aesthetic with Nagasaka’s strong social message, and a portion of proceeds will go toward supporting his initiatives in Ghana.

“Star ish girl”
One of Mago Nagasaka’s most iconic works, Star ish girl is a three-dimensional sculpture made from discarded materials. Its image is printed across the collection. The powerful, blooming star-shaped flower rising from the earth evokes themes of rebirth, with a fairy-like figure representing hope, seemingly lost in the moment.

“Zettai Sekai PEACE”
This print is based on a striking piece created using trash collected during a beach clean-up on Shodoshima Island in Kagawa Prefecture. Featuring the bold message “絶対世界 PEACE” (“World Peace Always”), the artwork was born from Nagasaka’s belief—formed during the pandemic—that even if he couldn’t return to Ghana, collecting global waste could still help heal the planet. Created under the theme We are the same, the piece calls for unity and environmental harmony.

Artist Profile: Mago Nagasaka

Born in Fukui Prefecture in 1984, Mago Nagasaka is a contemporary artist known for creating powerful works from waste. After visiting Agbogbloshie, a district in Ghana where locals survive by burning discarded electronics from developed nations, he dedicated his practice to repurposing trash into art. The proceeds from his work go toward building recycling facilities, developing sustainable agriculture, and advancing eco-conscious ventures like electric vehicles in Ghana.

He champions Sustainable Capitalism—a new economic model where culture, environment, and economy feed into one another—and continues to work toward transforming slums into thriving, sustainable communities. As of January 2025, 77 people are employed at MAGO MOTORS LTD, a company he founded in Ghana.

In 2022, he held his first solo museum exhibition at Tokyo’s Ueno Royal Museum and won the 51st Best Dresser Award in the Arts & Culture category. At the upcoming 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, he will unveil a new work titled Middle Jellyfish “Umi-tsuki”, created using recycled PET bottles.
